What we work with

We use materials that suit this part of the world. A lot of the housing stock around here is Warwickshire red brick terraces and 1990s Barratt-style estate homes, and the gardens that come with those properties need solid, considered groundwork, not just a few slabs dropped on sand.

How a typical installation week runs

People often ask what they’re actually paying for. Here’s the honest answer.

• 1. Excavation. We dig out to the correct depth. No shortcuts.
• 2. Sub-base. Compacted MOT Type 1. This is what your patio actually sits on.
• 3. Bedding layer. Sharp sand and cement, or a full mortar bed depending on the material.
• 4. Laying. Courses set to falls for drainage. It takes time. Good.
• 5. Jointing. Polymeric sand or mortar pointing, sealed where needed.
• 6. Clean-off. We leave the site tidy. Every time.

(Most patio problems we see come from a weak sub-base, not the slabs themselves.) It’s unglamorous work but it’s the part that matters most.
