If you are thinking of exploring North Mayo, why not base yourself in the town of Ballina. With an international name of "Salmon Capital of Ireland", you just know the fishing is great. This is due to its bountiful fishing on the world renound River Moy.
With the help of local businesses in the town and an increasing flow of investments Ballina has something to offer any tourist. Ballina is surrounded by many villages, all worthy of a visit. Take a drive along this rugged and certainly beautiful coastline through Killala with its famous stone quays to Ballycastle. Get out and listen to the waves at Downpatrick Head crashing into this rugged coastline, catch your breath and fill up with the Atlantic air.
There are many activities to try like the 18 hole pitch and putt course at Enniscrone, or take a walk in the 200 acre Belleek Wood.
Ballina hosts the Ballina Salmon Festival with activities for all the family.
