Schull Tourist Information

Skull is an enchanting and popular seaside town with areas of outstanding beauty along with local interest and a rich history that will leave you totally captivated.

With a well protected harbour, this town plays host to the Fastnet International Schools Regatta which attracts many visitors each year. If you are new to the sea's, consider the Fastnet Marine Outdoor Education Centre which offers '5 day sailing courses' throughout the summer. Schull offers many water sports; you'll have to decide between windsurfing, sailing dinghies, kayaks or going under for some scuba diving. Beware though; the coastline is filled throughout the summer with dolphins, seals, whales and even sharks!

 For shore based activities Schull is a popular starting point for coastal walks and cycling. The visitor centre is situated near the old lighthouse in Mizen Head and from here you'll find lots of information on local amenities and attractions. The magnificent beach in Barleycove and the quaint villages of Goleen and Crookhaven are all worth a visit!  If gardening is your thing, then you must look for the 'West Cork Garden Trail'.

A must-see for those of all ages is Schull's ( and indeed Ireland's) very own Planetarium! The ‘starshow' is the main feature which provides a ‘hands-on' interactive guide to astronomy over the years. The show is both entertaining and educational and is open from mid May through to September.

If you happen to be in Schull on a Sunday have a wonder around the ever-popular Schull Country Market, running from Easter to Christmas you'll find the finest of local produce, selling everything from fine cheeses to exotic home-baked breads. The markets also offer a range of Irish handmade crafts and jewellery so the ideal place to buy those last minute gifts!
