Cobh Tourist Information

Cobh  a picturesque island situated just 15 kilometres from Cork city is definitely a place to visit. It's refreshing sea breezes, warmed by the Gulf Stream, and friendly atmosphere are natural like the harbour that surrounds it.

Catering for all ages, there is a variety of things to do and places to visit in Cobh Co. Cork. For the energetic visitor activities such as sailing, wind surfing, rowing and horse riding are available, as is angling for the professional and amateur alike.

Retrace the steps of the 2.5 million adults and children who emigrated from Ireland via Cobh on coffin Ships, early steamers and great ocean liners. For the fellow historians you can discover Cobh's unique origins, it's history and legacy at the Queenstown story - a multimedia permanent exhibition at the restored Victorian Cobh railway station.

For beauty and tranquillity one may visit the Bible Garden, situated in the grounds of the old Admiralty House as well as Fota House, Gardens and Arboretum on nearby Fota Island. For all the family, Fota Wildlife Park is a must.

With over 300 species of Birds, East Cork is home to some of the most famous birdwatching sites in Europe.

For the more artistic and creative the Sirius Art Centre and Cobh Library house many exhibitions throughout the year while the Philip Gray Art Gallery in Rushbrooke Commercial Park is a must see.  On the Great Island local Theatre Groups also perform plays on a professional level.

There is a wonderful choice of restaurants and hostelries with many serving fresh seafood dishes, as well as the more traditional European meals these are coupled with fine Indian, Chinese and Italian Restaurants. The nightlife also holds many exciting choices, with a variety of music and craic with of course the traditional Irish 'Cead Mile Failte' in every bar.
