Glasheen Boys School Quiz Team which is sponsored by The Lough Credit Union Limited is through to the Credit Union Schools Quiz National Final which will be held on Sunday 5th April in the RDS in Dublin. Brian Ormond (TV presenter) will be the quiz master for the event. This is the third year in a row that Glasheen Boys School has reached the final and they are now going for another famous Cork three in a row. "We are very proud of the schools consistent performance in the quiz and we are delighted that they will represent us in Dublin for the third year in a row" Pat Coughlan, Manager, The Lough Credit Union. The Glasheen Boys Quiz Team already received generous rewards from The Lough Credit Union and Chapter X1. The team is represented this year by Jack McGee, E.J. Pangan, Michael Moran and Daniel Brazil. The Lough Credit Union Limited is the first Credit Union in Ireland to help their young members practice for the quiz with the aid of social media with their Bebo page which contains practice quiz questions. The Bebo account also contains a competition for the best drawing on the page and has a prize for the first person to get 100% in their specially made quiz and it also contains an A-Z of financial terms explained. "Social media is not just for kids to send pointless messages to each other and look at funny videos, we see it as a tool to educate our young members about the importance of budgeting and to explain the financial world to them" Cian O'Regan, Marketing Department, The Lough Credit Union. "We see social media as a great way to connect with our Members and we currently run a Twitter page to update our Members on what we are doing. We forged links with successful American credit union facebook pages and with guidance from them we will be launching our own in the near future". Cian O'Regan, Marketing Department, The Lough Credit Union Over 25,000 pupils compete in this quiz from the North and South of Ireland making it the biggest quiz competition in Ireland. The Credit Union Schools Quiz is not only about involving credit unions with their members and potential members, or just about winning, but it's also about learning and teamwork for all entrants. The 32 counties will be represented on the 5th of April with 400 children taking part making a total of 100 teams. The Lough Credit Union Limited is delighted to be part of the Annual Schools Quiz, which is co-ordinated at a national level by the Irish League of Credit Unions. The National Winners and Runners-Up each receive a beautiful silver salver, and their schools are each awarded a substantial cheque. The winning team and runners up will each receive individual prizes. Every finalist also receives a special certificate marking their achievement. The Credit Union All-Ireland Schools Quiz stimulates and encourages young minds to expand their general knowledge as well as teaching young people essential team-working skills.
