Golf Course

Golf at Waterville is a mystical experience – the beauty of classic links land, surrounded by the sea, yet forever challenged and shaped by the elements. Over 100 years old, Waterville is rated among the top 5 courses in Ireland and the top 20 links courses in the world.
Links golf combines sand dunes gorse and native grasses, firm fairways, sod faced bunkers and subtle putting surfaces all intertwined by the ever changing weather.

Club House

The clubhouse is all-inclusive, with locker facilities, pro-shop and adjacent golf school. An extensive collection of old photographs, golf art and memorabilia enhance the ambiance created by the mixture of visitors with the local membership. The restaurant and bar feature fresh seafood, Irish fare and the best pint in Kerry, all served by the glow of turf fires.

Daily preferential tee times including weekends have been set-aside for all Waterville House guests.

Upon accepting your reservation request, a confirmation will be sent to you. A 25% deposit which is non-refundable on all House and tee time reservations must be paid within 10 days of receiving confirmation of your reservation. American Express, Visa, Master Card or personal cheques are acceptable. We require full payment 30 days prior to arrival date. Failure to do so automatically cancels your reservation. Cancellation within 30 days of arrival will necessitate full payment of reservation.

Caddies, petrol carts and pull carts are available at the Links. Requests for caddies and petrol carts should be made with the reservation.

Waterville House is a four star, 18th century manor house. The property features the natural beauty of a forty acre estate on the Atlantic and the most famous sea trout and salmon fishery in Ireland.

Aside from its comfort and charm, Waterville House has 12 bedrooms en-suite, sauna, steam room, health facility with massage room, billiard room and private golf practice facility. Guests of Waterville House enjoy preferential tee times and access to fishing in private lakes and rivers.

Practice Facility – The location of the Fazio designed practice facility at the Waterville House takes better advantage of an underutilized piece of ground with some astounding views. The most proximate amenity to the House is a new putting green stretching panoramically beyond the large health facility windows. The green itself offers golfers all ranges of putts on a consistent surface and views of the ocean and surrounding hills. Enclosed by a hedge and walls the green is afforded some succor from frequent wind gusts, lengthening the playing season.

Short Game Area – The Short Game Area in the next field over offers uninterrupted views to the sea. A smallish green is surrounded with various slopes supporting many shot types. Two bunkers: one greenside, one 20 yards out, punctuate the undulating space. Shot lengths from bump and run to 80+ yard approach shots are accommodated with both level and sloping lies.



Butlers Pool Renovation – Over the past 5 years, a series of projects have been completed to improve our riparian habitat under the critical eye of Dr. Martin O’Grady of the Central Fisheries Board.

Gravel traps have been added to the Finglas River. Excess gravel has been extracted from the Butlers Pool, and groins added to shape river flow creating new pools both upstream and downstream of the Weir. A rock breakwater was also constructed on the foreshore to allow easier access by migrating fish. In addition, the river traverse over the Weir and footbridge will be reconfigured to allow powered utility carts to access the driving range and the middle field. Finally, we were successful in bidding on a 5 year lease for the entire Finglas System, the major spawning river of the Waterville Catchment.

All these improvements were done with an eye towards the Government’s permanent ban of commercial driftnetting in Irish Waters. A “South Beach” welcome now awaits all our Salmon and Sea Trout as they return to their natal rivers in Waterville.



WATERVILLE, A GOLFING, ANGLING AND WELLNESS CENTER




Waterville House sits aside one of Irelands most famous angling areas – the Lough Currane Fishery and the Weir at Butlers Pool. The Weir is a part of Ireland’s Salmon Research Program, supplying critical fish migration data.

The season begins January 17th with springers running March through May and grilse and seatrout May through September. Wet fly on 10' rod with 8 line wt. is the norm at the pool, however experienced ghillies are available to fish the entire system.
