Beaten Lyons calls time on inter-county management
James Nallen had agreed to become a selector with both front-runners for the Mayo manager's position, it has emerged.
New boss James Horan has confirmed that Nallen, who retired from inter-county football at the beginning of this year, will be part of his back-room team.
But Tommy Lyons also said yesterday that Nallen would also have been part of his back-room team had he been chosen.
Former Dublin and Offaly manager Lyons has accepted he will not now manage an inter-county team in the future.
"That's it for me. I wouldn't be letting my name go forward again. I'm delighted I went for it," he stated.
"But James Horan is an excellent candidate and I'd like to wish him well. He had done very well with Ballintubber and was a very good footballer with the county."
