RAPID Funding for City
Galway City RAPID Programme is pleased to announce that Éamon Ó Cuív T.D. Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and Pat Carey, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs today announced that the Government has approved the allocation of €7.15 million from the Dormant Accounts Fund to support 347 projects in RAPID areas. This includes the allocation of €125,000 to the Galway City RAPID areas.
The 5 areas will share the allocated fund between 18 local organisations.
Liam Hanrahan, RAPID co-ordinator for Galway City Council explained "The funding will be used to support local residents associations and local groups to run sport and community events in conjunction with the local Sports Partnership and the FAI, some small scale capital items required by projects such as Sonas/Cope and Westside Age Inclusion project and also support some roof repairs in the Ballybane Resource Centre. Local Organic Garden projects and Ala Community theatre will also benefit from programme support costs. As well as supporting community actions we are also looking at this fund to support local enterprise development and a business mentoring programme will be developed in the Ballybane Enterprise Centre with Liam Bluett of SCCUL."
Mr. Jason Craughwell added that "the local sports partnership hopes to be able to sit down in the coming week with local groups that are receiving sports grants to draw up summer programmes and other activities including 'Street Soccer' in association with the FAI."
