Osteopathy is a well established and recognized system of diagnosing, treating and preventing musculoskeletal disorders, that is, pain and/or dysfunction arising in the muscles, joints, nerves, ligaments and tendons. Although osteopaths are well known for treating back problems, we also treat a wide range of musculoskeletal complaints anything from headaches to flat feet. Here is a short list of some of the treatments that I provide treatment for;

  • Neck and back pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Shoulder, arm and hand problems
  • Muscle, ligament and joint injuries
  • Disc problems and trapped nerves
  • Overuse and RSI type injuries
  • Knee, ankle and foot injuries
  • Pregnancy related pain
  • Leg pain and sciatica
  • Postural problems
  • Sports injuries

This list does not cover everything but touches on the more common problems that patients have. If you are ever in doubt as to where to go get treated for a problem just call Mark and he would be happy to advice you on an appropriate course of treatment. Mark will always emphasize early detection is the best way to treat any pain that you have. Here are some of the early benefits that those having treatment often experience...

  • Reduction in pain or discomfort.
  • Greater ease and freedom of movement.
  • A progressive return to normal daily activities.
  • The confidence and peace of mind that comes from knowing what the problem is and how best to help it.
  • Improved sleep due to increased comfort levels.
  • Improved mood! (Pain especially if severe or prolonged can be a source of ongoing frustration and distress that affects both the quality of our life and our relationship with others).

What Happens when you visit Mark Smyth?

Your first appointment here will last between 45 minutes and one hour. In this time, a full medical case history will be taken, and questions will be asked about the area that is painful and the history of any other aches and pains that may have occurred in the past. After this a thorough examination of the area will take place. Mark will make a diagnosis and discuss it with you and if osteopathic treatment is suitable it will be offered to you. Treatment will be aimed at helping to restore normal joint stability and function.
