West Side Story

Start date: 19th March 2010 until 19th March 2010

More than fifty years ago, a show about New York City changed musical theatre forever. From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. The dark theme, sophisticated music, extended dance scenes, and focus on social problems marked a turning point in American musical theatre.

Cork Opera House is renowned for producing electrifying, powerful musicals time and time again and their in-house production of West Side Story promises to be no exception. Director Bryan Flynn and the creative team that brought us the musical drama, Michael Collins, now bring this thrilling presentation to Cork Opera House stage.

The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim - a collection of standards that includes Tonight, America, Maria, I Feel Pretty and Somewhere is widely regarded as one of the best ever written. And the extraordinary, Tony-winning choreography by Jerome Robbins completely changed the language of Broadway dance.

This new production, directed by Bryan Flynn, offers a bold new presentation that builds on the show's raw power and emotion to create a fresh musical theatre experience. They'll be singing, they'll be dancing, so don't miss what promises to be a wonderful show with jazzy, jagged glorious songs and swaggering, dazzling lyrics!
