A Certain Slant Of Light :: Lorraine Neeson

Start date: 17th February 2010 until 17th March 2010

Lorraine Neeson works primarily with lens based media, and has created this exhibition using the particular architectural qualities of the ESB Substation in Caroline Street.

The exhibition A Certain Slant of Light challenges how we, the viewer, perceive and experience the space. Neeson uses film, photography and the architecture of the building itself and the result is that our experience is heightened and enhanced by such factors as the treatment of light and darkness, the utilization of sound (or the lack of it) and the exploitation and manipulation of ehat the artist calls "hidden and undisclosed information". Sometimes our journey through the building becomes a kind of strange exploration, and we feel a sense of destabilization and disorientation within the environment.

Lorraine Neeson lives and works in both Ireland and London. Having graduated from the Art College in Cork in 2002, she studied in Slade, and has lectured at Limerick College of Art and Design. She has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally and has received numerous awards for her work including the Adrian Curruthers Studio Award and Bursary in 2006.
